After being closed for two years, Cervejaria Trindade reopens its doors with a transformation that includes a new identity, a renovated space, and a menu created by prestigious chef Alexandre Silva. Horto do Campo Grande was part of this project, where nature took center stage.

Considered the most beautiful and oldest brewery in Portugal, at nearly 200 years old, Trindade, Lisbon’s Original Brewery, EST 1836, has changed its identity to give the brand a more modern character, reinforcing the grandeur of its heritage and cultural relevance.

In a location that, in 1294, was occupied by the Convent of the Holy Trinity, the space has undergone several changes over the centuries, causing it to lose its conventual character. In the mid-19th century, tile “decoration” was integrated with ethnographic panels, and later, it would feature works from Maria Keil’s modernist project—becoming a representation of various eras and cultural and social values.
To develop its new identity, the century-old brewery drew inspiration from the arches in its interior and has now emerged with a positioning even more focused on its origins and Lisbon, maintaining the essence that made it a successful venue.

A more modern and renovated brewery

The interiors were designed by Atelier de Arquitectura Ana Costa. According to the architect, “intervening in Trindade is an exercise in humility—in the sense of respect for its history.”
Adapting to new experiences and dynamics while offering a truly timeless experience became the clear purpose of Cervejaria Trindade, which used characteristic elements to refurbish the space on its “conventual” scale.
The original vaults, the cloister area, and the stonework details were restored. The classic and modern tile panels, works by Keil do Amaral, and Trindade’s most iconic artworks were restored and highlighted to enhance their presence in the rooms’ decor.

The Trindade space is divided into three areas: the petiscaria (snack bar), with a more informal atmosphere; the restaurant, offering a more complete experience; and the outdoor area with a large terrace, where you can feel the pulse of the city. The menu was revamped by chef Alexandre Silva, who kept the original Bife à Trindade, Bacalhau à Brás, and seafood dishes while adding some new items to the menu.

Horto do Campo Grande’s contributions

Inside, two large artificial olive trees were placed in custom-made Horto Collection planters, specifically designed by our team for the location.
Outside, the refurbished flowerbed, lined with Lioz—a Portuguese limestone—which runs the length of the entire terrace, was filled with plants of different sizes and varieties. In certain areas, the flowerbed features cutouts that serve as benches for the tables, always surrounded by a lush green environment.
