Over more than 40 years of activity, Horto do Campo Grande has built genuine bonds of friendship with private, institutional and business customers—relationships that take on a special meaning at this time of year. At Christmas time, many people visit our garden centres—Campo Grande, Quinta da Eira and Fernão Ferro—in search of special ornaments, pieces or inspiring decorative elements to turn their homes and organisations into places where the magic of Christmas happens.

It was during these visits, so special to us, that we invited some of our customers to share their Christmas memories with us, and also the elements that can’t be missing from their Christmas décor this year.

With affection, we continue to share our customers’ Christmas, as they were quick to accept our challenge.

My Christmas smells of cinnamon and chocolate. It has the classic colours: Santa’s red and the deep green of pine needles, the radiant glow of the lights in their steady “twinkle”, and a beautiful nativity scene from Barcelos, given to me by a dear friend. Our tree has magic: fabric dolls, snow globes, ornaments full of memories made by our children, and baubles with everyone’s names: Tânia, João, Tomás, Pedro, Mel and Bauer—yes, because our dogs are always with us, even Bauer, who is already in heaven.

The Christmases of my childhood were always with lots of family—tables full, dishes and platters spinning back and forth, in a constant, joyful bustle that involved everyone. They were spent at the home of the most wonderful grandparents in the world. Now, they are too. They live in our hearts—in every spoonful of chocolate mousse, in every shared laugh, in every child’s smile. We always have a Christmas flower at home, holly, the big tree full of lights, the nativity scene and the carousel. Love is never missing. Christmas is Love.
