Between 4 and 6 July, the Cascais coastline once again became a stage of excellence for another edition of the Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy, which has already established itself as one of Europe’s most prestigious sailing competitions. Organised by the Mirpuri Foundation in partnership with the Cascais Naval Club and with the support of Cascais City Council. The sixth edition of the event brought together hundreds of participants (sailors) and top-class boats, in an initiative where high-performance sport goes hand in hand with environmental awareness.
With more than 150 boats and sailors from 18 countries, the regatta reaffirmed its international scale and its commitment to sustainability. The highlight of the closing ceremony was the presentation of the Perpetual Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy to the fastest boats in real time in the cruising classes: Racing for the Planet, skippered by Bernardo Freitas (ORC), and Green Eyes, by Carlos Mirpuri (NHC), saw their names engraved in the trophy’s history, alongside previous champions.
The 2025 podium featured established names and young sailing talents, with wins in classes such as TP52, SB20, Snipe, J70, Optimist and others. The diversity of winners and the competitiveness of the races underline the spirit of the event: celebrating sailing, with all generations invited on board.
The regatta also saw the crowning of the new TP52 world champions, with Quantum Racing’s victory reinforcing the event’s international prestige.
Beyond the sporting side, the Mirpuri Foundation Sailing Trophy maintained its role as a benchmark in promoting sustainability. Through the Mirpuri Foundation Conservation Forum, held at Cascais Marina, the event promoted debate around the role of tourism and aviation in environmental conservation, bringing together experts from around the world.
During the closing ceremony, the Mirpuri Foundation Ocean Award 2025 was presented to CORDAP – Coral Research & Development Accelerator Platform, for its innovative work in training specialists in coral reef restoration. The prize, worth €10,000, will support the training of professionals from developing countries such as Mozambique, helping to protect at-risk marine ecosystems.
Nature on board, with Horto do Campo Grande
An intervention designed to enhance the spaces and reinforce the environmental principles guiding the initiative. As in previous years, plants were present in key areas of the marina and the event venue, creating green routes, setting up rest areas and providing occasional shade in areas with greater sun exposure.
Beyond the visual impact, the selected plant species played a functional role in the comfort of visitors and participants. They helped regulate the ambient temperature and promote a more natural, pleasant and healthy atmosphere.
