Mercearia Pachecas now arrives in Comporta, in what is the brand’s first expansion outside Lisbon. Set in the iconic Loja Caju, in Carvalhal, the new address brings together dining, grocery and hospitality in a relaxed space where the outdoors plays an important role.

It was in this setting that Horto do Campo Grande developed the planting scheme, bringing different species into the space and creating a closer relationship between the building, the courtyard and the surrounding landscape.
Cacti, grasses, gauras, lavender and other Mediterranean plant species echo the identity of the place and respond to the characteristics of a territory shaped by sun, proximity to the sea and a very distinctive native vegetation. More than simply filling the space, the plant selection aims to reinforce Comporta’s atmosphere and naturally frame the different areas of the Mercearia.

The intervention also extends to the outdoor courtyard, designed to encourage longer stays and accompany the moments of conviviality that are part of the Mercearia Pachecas Comporta concept. The vegetation introduces different volumes, textures and tones, helping to define the ambience without taking the spotlight away from the architecture and the project’s other elements.

With an architectural project by Magari Studio and an artistic intervention by painter Rita Zilhão, the new space takes on a relaxed, luminous identity, to which the planting adds a natural presence particularly suited to the season and the place.

For Horto do Campo Grande, taking part in this project also means bringing the experience of working with plants into commercial contexts where architecture, décor, plants and product sales come together with everyday use. At Mercearia Pachecas Comporta, that connection finds in nature one of its finest forms of expression.
