Money Tree - Pachira aquatica (14cm pot)
Popularly known as the “Money Tree”, Pachira aquatica is probably one of the oldest plants associated with fortune and happiness. That’s why it’s widely used to decorate offices, homes, shops and shopping centres across Asia. Apparently, having it nearby brings good energy, and the origin of this belief lies in its leaves: palmate with five leaflets, easily linked to the 5 elements of Feng Shui: earth, fire, wood, water and metal. Besides this link to luck/happiness, this plant—native to swampy areas of Central America, northern Brazil and Peru (and in our climate it should be kept indoors)—is low-maintenance, elegant and eye-catching. Make sure you place it in a spot with plenty of indirect/filtered light, check that your home’s indoor environment isn’t too dry, keep it away from heating/cooling systems, don’t overwater, and never forget that standing water (in the saucer or non-drained decorative pots) can rot the roots. With its braided trunk and large, glossy, pointed green leaves at the crown, Pachira aquatica will help create a small oasis in any interior space, while also helping to purify the air and eliminate toxins around you. Need more reasons to buy this plant? It also makes an excellent gift for any reason or celebration.

CUIDADOS
Light: Prefers plenty of indirect light, but also tolerates light shade. However, placing it in environments that are too dark can compromise its development.
Watering: Water when the soil is dry, with plenty of water, allowing excess water to drain well. In winter reduce the frequency of watering.
Temperature: Likes mild temperatures (15 to 25ºC) and environments with some relative humidity.
Fertilising: Apply a suitable product for green/indoor plants once a month during the growing season (spring–summer).
Pruning: It’s advisable to trim some of the larger leaves from the lower part of the trunk to encourage new growth at the top, keeping the shape/canopy that characterises this plant.
Pet-friendly: This plant is considered safe for pets.
