Pink aglaonema - Aglaonema 'Cherry Baby' (12 cm pot)
The Aglaonema ‘Cherry Baby’ is a tropical indoor plant that stands out for the intense, unusual colour of its foliage. The leaves show tones ranging from pink to salmon pink and red, contrasting with green edges and small greenish spots or markings irregularly distributed. The intensity and distribution of these colours can naturally vary from leaf to leaf and between different plants.
With compact, dense, and generally upright growth, it’s a particularly decorative plant, ideal for adding a pop of colour indoors. Like other Aglaonemas, it adapts relatively well to home conditions, although good indirect light is especially important to support growth and maintain the intensity of the foliage colour.
Scientific name: Aglaonema ‘Cherry Baby’
Common names: Aglaonema ‘Cherry Baby’, pink aglaonema
Family: Araceae
Origin: Horticultural cultivar derived from plants of the genus Aglaonema, native to tropical and subtropical regions of Asia to Papua New Guinea
Climate: Tropical
Category: Indoor plant
Approx. height: 20–30 cm
Pot diameter: 12 cm
CUIDADOS
Light: Prefers a very bright spot, with indirect or filtered light. Although it tolerates lower-light environments, a good amount of indirect light helps keep the intensity of the pink and reddish tones in the foliage. Avoid prolonged exposure to intense direct sun, which may cause leaf scorch.
Temperature: Prefers warm, relatively stable environments. Avoid low temperatures, cold draughts and sudden temperature changes. Don’t place it directly next to air-conditioning units.
Watering: Water when the top layer of the growing medium begins to dry. Water evenly and allow excess water to drain, avoiding keeping the growing medium permanently moist or waterlogged. During winter and in lower-light environments, watering should be less frequent.
Humidity: Appreciates moderate to high ambient humidity, although it generally adapts to normal indoor conditions. Avoid excessively dry environments or proximity to heat sources.
Soil/Growing medium: Prefers a growing medium rich in organic matter, light, airy and with good drainage, able to retain some moisture without remaining waterlogged.
Fertilisation: During the most active growth period, especially in spring and summer, apply regularly a fertiliser suitable for foliage plants, following the doses and frequency indicated by the manufacturer. Reduce or suspend fertilisation during winter.
Pruning/Maintenance: Remove dry or damaged leaves at the base and occasionally clean the foliage to remove dust. If it produces inflorescences, these can be kept or removed if you wish to favour the ornamental development of the foliage.
Flowering: Can produce small inflorescences typical of the Araceae family, consisting of a spadix surrounded by a spathe. When grown indoors, it’s mainly valued for its colourful foliage rather than its flowers.
Life cycle: Perennial.
Not Pet Friendly: Aglaonemas contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and should not be ingested by dogs or cats. Ingestion can cause irritation and burning in the mouth, tongue and lips, excessive salivation, vomiting and difficulty swallowing.
