{"id":86012,"date":"2024-01-04T17:46:00","date_gmt":"2024-01-04T17:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hortodocampogrande.pt\/horto\/epis-entrepreneurs-for-social-inclusion\/"},"modified":"2026-03-02T10:12:15","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T10:12:15","slug":"epis-entrepreneurs-for-social-inclusion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hortodocampogrande.pt\/en\/garden\/epis-entrepreneurs-for-social-inclusion\/","title":{"rendered":"EPIS \u2013 Entrepreneurs for Social Inclusion"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>This association was set up in 2006 by a group of more than 100 entrepreneurs and managers in Portugal in response to the call launched to civil society by the then President of the Republic, Professor An\u00edbal Cavaco Silva, for a commitment to social inclusion that would involve political forces, institutions, local authorities and civil society organisations. Since its foundation, EPIS has had Engineer Diogo Sim\u00f5es Pereira as its director-general. The Association works in close partnership with the Ministry of Education, Regional Governments and Local Authorities across the country and has had the High Patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Professor Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, since 2016.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>In an increasingly global and competitive world, where technological progress asserts itself every day, it creates ever greater social inclusion challenges for the most disadvantaged children and young people, making EPIS\u2019s mission increasingly relevant.<\/p>\n\n<p>As stated by the Chair of the Board, Dr. Leonor Beleza, EPIS \u2013 Entrepreneurs for Social Inclusion, is responsible for the largest programme engaging civil society in promoting young people\u2019s social inclusion through academic success and access to employment.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">EPIS Social Scholarships<\/h3>\n\n<p>In 2011, EPIS developed a scholarship programme for students in need. The EPIS Social Scholarships \u2013 Schools of the Future were designed with 3 objectives, making it possible to align the spirit of EPIS\u2019s 2 main programmes on the ground:<\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Provide support to students in need throughout their secondary and university education;<\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Highlight best practices in promoting social inclusion and in promoting sustainability and active citizenship and, since 2019, in line with the \u201cSpecial Youth Initiative\u201d programme;<\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Support training internships and the professional integration of young people with special needs and students.<\/p>\n\n<p>The EPIS Social Scholarships have nationwide coverage: all schools, institutions and students studying in Portugal can apply.<\/p>\n\n<p>Since 2011, EPIS has recognised 118 schools and institutions for their best practices in social inclusion, awarded 943 scholarships to students, investing \u20ac1.7M, with the support of 86 social investors and 89 individual donors, through 238 partnerships.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>In 2023, the 13th edition of the EPIS Social Scholarships continues to represent significant growth for the programme:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 208 scholarships to be awarded, +28% compared to the 2022 programme; <\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Social investment of \u20ac454.8k, +34% compared to the 2022 programme.<\/p>\n\n<p>In 2023, the programme had 49 social investors: Abreu Advogados, Actemium, \u00c1guas do Vale do Tejo, ANA &#8211; Aeroportos de Portugal, Ascenza, Atrium Investimentos, Avipronto, Banco Carregosa, Banco de Portugal, Banco Invest, Banco Montepio, BIAL, Biotek, Brisa, Boehringer Ingelheim, BP Portugal, Caima, Caixa Geral de Dep\u00f3sitos, Cires, Cofaco A\u00e7ores, CTT \u2013 Correios de Portugal, Deloitte, Estoril Sol, Fertagus, Fresenius Kabi, Fidelidade, Funda\u00e7\u00e3o AGEAS \u2013 Agir com cora\u00e7\u00e3o, Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Am\u00e9lia de Mello, Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Galp, Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Luso-Americana para o Desenvolvimento, Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Monjardino, Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Santander Portugal, Galucho, Grupo Jer\u00f3nimo Martins, Grupo Pestana, Grupo Super Bock, Grupo Trivalor, Omexon, Sociedade Central de Cervejas, Sogrape, Soroptimist International Clube Lisboa Caravela, Sot\u00e9cnica, Synthomer Omnova, Tabaqueira, V Humana, Zurich, as well as 3 individual donors, Teresa and Duarte Mineiro, Ernesto Silva Vieira and an anonymous donor.<\/p>\n\n<p>The EPIS Social Scholarships 2023, now in their 13th edition, were awarded on 4 December 2023, in a session held at Caixa Geral de Dep\u00f3sitos\u2019 headquarters in Lisbon, bringing together students and their families, EPIS Members and Partners, school principals, teachers and EPIS mediators.<\/p>\n\n<p>Aware of the need to support these initiatives, Horto do Campo Grande welcomed F\u00e1bio Carrilho, who has been doing an internship since 2022 at the Campo Grande Garden Centre. From the outset, we had the prompt collaboration of our staff, who welcomed and integrated F\u00e1bio into the team, and who follow his commitment and progress every day, always with the support and guidance of APCL \u2013 Lisbon Cerebral Palsy Association.<\/p>\n\n<p>It was with great satisfaction that we saw him awarded an EPIS Social Scholarship, with the support of the Am\u00e9lia de Mello Foundation, for Special Youth, before the EPIS Social Scholarships 2023 Jury.
