Yellow, red, white, or bright pink, Bromeliads bring colour and joy to any space. They add that exotic, tropical, vibrant touch to the corner at home that needed more colour and life.
Their broad, soft leaves, arranged in a spiral, are topped with inflorescences made up of colourful bracts. And besides being unusual and eye-catching, it’s worth saying that Bromeliad blooms last a long time! Add to that the fact they need very little care (just some indirect light), belong to the group of plants that help purify indoor air, and are pet-friendly, and you’ve got every reason to choose this plant-and-pot set right now.

Scientific name: Guzmania sp.
Common name: Bromeliad
Family: Bromeliaceae
Origin: Central and South America
Category: Indoor plant
Approx. height: 35–45 cm
Pot diameter: 14cm

CUIDADOS
Light: They like plenty of light, without direct sun, especially in the hottest months.
Temperature: These are tropical plants, and as such, they enjoy warm and humid environments (but watch out for proximity to heating systems – that won’t do them any good!)
Watering: They need watering with greater or lesser frequency depending on the light, ventilation and temperature parameters of the environment they’re in. When in doubt, it’s better to wait a few days and water later or use less water each time. They like water to collect in the central rosette (preferably rainwater).
Soil: The substrate should be light and free-draining, suitable for epiphytic plants (which in their habitat grow on other plants, trees, rocks, etc.).
Fertilising: You can apply a light fertiliser (suitable for epiphytes — such as coconut fibre and husk, and pine bark) in spring, but avoid putting it directly into the centre of the leaves.
Pruning: Not necessary, but damaged leaves should be removed, as well as flowers that have reached the end of their cycle.
Pet Friendly: This plant is considered safe for pets.

Fun facts: The Bromeliaceae family is vast, with over 60 genera and around 3,000 species. Guzmania is a type of bromeliad. The main difference is that “Bromeliad” is an umbrella term for the whole plant family (Bromeliaceae), while “Guzmania” is a specific genus within that family, known for its colourful inflorescences and lush foliage. The genus Bromelia is a specific botanical genus within the Bromeliaceae family, which includes plants such as macambira. Although it’s common to use “bromeliad” to refer to all plants in the family, the genus Bromelia is a distinct taxonomic category with species distributed across tropical Americas.

WARNING!
