A small, slow-growing tree with evergreen leaves that are much appreciated for their lush green colour. It bears a white flower that can be followed by a fruit. There are 2 varieties: large-leaf (Macrophyla) and small-leaf (Microphyla); the latter fruits more easily.

Scientific name: Ehretia buxifolia
Common name: Carmona
Location: Indoor bonsai
Approximate height: 35cm

CARE
Light: Place indoors near a window (max. 50cm distance), without curtains or blinds, where it gets 2 to 3 hours of direct sunlight per day, rotating it 180º weekly. Keep away from heating/cooling systems. It can spend the warm months outdoors but cannot withstand temperatures below 12ºC.

Watering: Water the soil thoroughly until water flows freely from the drainage holes, moistening the soil evenly—always from above, never by immersion, using a fine-rose watering can (specific for Bonsai). Allow the top layer of soil to dry well between waterings. To check if the plant needs water, touch the soil with your fingers. This Bonsai doesn’t require much water and is sensitive to root fungi if overwatered and/or lacking light. If you have a tray under the Bonsai, never leave standing water (to prevent root rot).

Nutrition: From Feb to Nov, fertilize with a base plan consisting of a complete fertilizer and a biostimulant; it can also be combined with other products.

Pruning: This Bonsai has slow growth and its leaves stay beautiful for a long time, so you should control new shoots as soon as they reach the desired size to maintain a compact look.

Repotting: Use Deciduous Bonsai Soil from Apr to May, with pruning and/or partial defoliation.

Wiring: Unusual, can be done year-round, but be careful as the plant is very brittle.

WARNING! Representative photo – the image shown is of a specimen in stock at the time the product was added to the online catalog and is for reference only. The Bonsai provided will be similar to the photo; however, depending on its growth cycle stage, it may vary in shape, appearance, or size (e.g., different leaf shade, more/fewer leaves, with or without flowers/fruit, etc.). The ceramic pot shown in the photo is included in the cost and approximate height indicated.

Native to Southwest China, it belongs to the Boraginaceae family.
