That’s why it’s widely used to decorate offices, homes, shops and shopping centres across Asia. Apparently, having it nearby brings good energy, and the origin of this belief lies in its leaves: palmate with five leaflets, easily linked to the 5 elements of Feng Shui: earth, fire, wood, water and metal. Besides this link to luck/happiness, this plant—native to swampy areas of Central America, northern Brazil and Peru (and in our climate it should be kept indoors)—is low-maintenance, elegant and eye-catching. Make sure you place it somewhere with plenty of indirect/filtered light, check that the air inside your home isn’t too dry, keep it away from heating/cooling systems, don’t overwater, and never forget that standing water (in the saucer or in decorative pots without drainage holes) can rot the roots. With its braided trunk and large, glossy, pointed green leaves at the top, the Pachira aquatica will help create a little oasis in any indoor space, and also help purify the air and remove toxins around it. Need more reasons to buy this plant? It’s also an excellent gift, whatever the occasion or celebration.

Scientific name: Pachira aquatica
Common name: Money Tree
Family: Malvaceae
Origin: Central and South America
Category: Indoor plant
Approx. height: 1 m
Diâmetro vaso: 19cm

CUIDADOS
Light: Prefers plenty of indirect light, but also tolerates light shade. However, placing it in overly dark spaces can compromise its growth.
Watering: Water when the soil is dry, with plenty of water, allowing excess water to drain well. In winter reduce the frequency of watering.
Temperature: Likes mild temperatures (15 to 25ºC) and environments with some relative humidity.
Fertilising: Apply a suitable product for green/indoor plants once a month during the growing season (spring–summer).
Pruning: It’s advisable to trim some of the larger leaves from the lower part of the trunk to encourage new growth at the top, keeping the shape/canopy that characterises this plant.
Pet-friendly: This plant is considered safe for pets.

WARNING!
