Associated with Mediterranean landscapes, they are frequently used to cover pergolas, walls, arches and facades, creating true displays of colour for much of the year.
Although pink and violet tones are the most well-known, there are also varieties with bracts in white, orange, red and other vibrant shades. The small flowers appear surrounded by these colourful bracts, which are responsible for the plant’s characteristic ornamental effect.
With vigorous growth and high resistance to heat and drought when well established, Bougainvillea can be trained as a climber, shrub or informal hedge. When planted directly in the ground with adequate support, it can reach between 5 and 10 metres in height, forming dense and highly floriferous structures.
It is an excellent choice for gardens, terraces, patios and sunny outdoor spaces, where it provides colour, volume and a typically Mediterranean atmosphere with minimal maintenance requirements.
The flower colour of the Bougainvillea supplied may vary depending on stock availability. If no colour preference is indicated (in the “Notes” section of the purchase form), the team will select an available specimen from stock.

Scientific name: Bougainvillea sp.
Common names: Buganvília, Ceboleiro, Flor-de-papel, Pataguinha, Pau-de-roseira, Roseiro, Roseta, Santa-rita, Sempre-lustrosa, Três-marias
Family: Nyctaginaceae
Origin: South America (Brazil)
Climate: Tropical, subtropical
Category: Outdoor plants
Approximate height: 60cm
Pot diameter: 14cm

CUIDADOS
Light: This is a plant that requires direct sunlight. It loves full sun and prefers a south-facing position (shady areas or north-facing spots will reduce flowering).
Temperature: Does not tolerate intense or prolonged frosts. In regions with harsher winters, it is recommended to protect the plant with thermal fleece or place it in a sheltered location. Cold resistance increases as the plant develops and becomes well rooted.
Watering: Moderate, avoid waterlogging. As temperatures drop, space out watering; in winter, only water when the soil is completely dry. If keeping the plant in a pot or planter, watch out for saucers or pots without drainage holes where irrigation or rainwater can become trapped, encouraging root rot.
Soil: Fertile and well-draining. It’s not very demanding, although it prefers loose, fertile soil/substrate that doesn’t retain excess water.
Fertilisation: During the flowering season, add liquid or granular fertiliser to the irrigation water, suitable for outdoor flowering plants, according to label instructions.
Pruning: Pruning is recommended at the end of winter to control growth, stimulate branching and encourage more abundant flowering.
Not Pet Friendly: Not a pet-safe plant.

WARNING!
