This shrub, native to Mexico, can reach 4 m (more likely if planted in the ground). At that height it looks very striking, as green-blue foliage appears at the top of the trunk and its shape resembles a pompom\/crown\u2014although the leaves are stiff and pointed! It\u2019s an evergreen, slow-growing plant and usually has just one trunk. Although it isn\u2019t a cactus, it\u2019s widely used in similar settings and can stay in a pot for several years. Its white blooms usually appear in summer or autumn. This is a very versatile plant, well adapted to our climate\u2014ideal for a rock garden, a border bed, or in a pot on a terrace\/balcony.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scientific name<\/strong>: <em>Yucca Rostrata<\/em><br \/><strong>Common name<\/strong>: Blue Yucca, Yucca Palm, Beaked Moon, Pointed Yucca<br \/><strong>Family<\/strong>: <em>Asparagaceae<\/em><br \/><strong>Origin<\/strong>: USA and Mexico<br \/><strong>Approximate height<\/strong>: 40cm<br \/><strong>Pot diameter<\/strong>: 20 cm<\/p>\n<p><strong>CUIDADOS<\/strong><br \/><strong>Light<\/strong>: Full sun, preferably in the morning, or partial shade (direct sun in the morning or afternoon).<br \/><strong>Watering<\/strong>: Although it isn\u2019t a cactus, given its origin it has similar needs\u2014meaning it\u2019s quite tolerant of moderate dry spells and doesn\u2019t tolerate waterlogging. For this reason, only water when the substrate is completely dry (the \u201cfinger test\u201d is recommended to make sure the soil is dry, not just on the surface, between waterings).<br \/><strong>Fertilising<\/strong>: Fertilise occasionally during the growing season with a suitable fertiliser (cacti\/succulents).<br \/><strong>Soil<\/strong>: Prefers a neutral or calcareous substrate with good drainage.<br \/><strong>Pruning<\/strong>: No pruning needed.
