It’s one of the most luxurious Philodendrons in its family, adding a touch of glamour to any interior space. It’s also an excellent choice as it requires almost no maintenance, belongs to the “air-purifying” group (helping remove toxins from the air around you), and tolerates shadier environments. Need more reasons to get this plant for your home or office? It’s also a great gift idea—whatever the occasion!

Scientific name: Philodendron ‘Imperial Red’
Common name: Philodendron Imperial Red
Family: Araceae
Origin: Central and South America
Climate: Tropical and subtropical
Category: Indoor plant
Approximate height: 40cm
Pot diameter: 17 cm

CUIDADOS
Light: Indirect/filtered light but also tolerates shadier environments—note that the less light it gets, the less water it will need. Doesn’t tolerate direct sun (it may get scorched).
Temperature: Ideally between 18° and 22°C. Mild and humid environments are ideal as they replicate its natural habitat.
Humidity: As a plant native to tropical rainforests, it appreciates high air humidity. Doesn’t tolerate overly dry environments or very high temperatures.
Watering: Let the substrate dry out almost completely (not just on the surface) before watering again. Watch out for waterlogging: saucers with standing water or decorative pots without drainage holes promote root rot. No standing water!
Soil: Use a lightweight, well-draining, slightly acidic substrate (mixing perlite/sand into the substrate and expanded clay at the bottom of the pot helps improve drainage).
Fertilization: Fertilize monthly during spring with a fertilizer suitable for green/indoor plants, following the product label instructions.
Pruning: Removing dry or damaged leaves boosts growth and keeps the plant healthy.
Not Pet-friendly: Can be toxic to pets if ingested, so it’s important to keep it out of reach of curious animals.

Tips: Periodically clean the leaves with a clean, damp cloth or sponge. Yellowing edges can be a sign of overwatering. Dark spots may be fungi caused by excess water in the soil or on the leaves.

WARNING!
