It is a medium-sized evergreen shrub that blooms from April until the first frosts, producing beautiful purple\/lilac or white flowers that contrast with its dark green oval leaves. The highly decorative flowers appear throughout the year, reaching their peak exuberance in early spring. They close in the late afternoon and reopen at first light. This shrub can reach over 1m in height and is very easy to care for, hardy, and highly sustainable\/adapted to our climate. It is ideal for rock gardens and coastal gardens. It is also a perfect plant for pots, adding color to a terrace or balcony.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scientific name<\/strong>: <em>Polygala myrtifolia &#8216;Bibi Pink&#8217;<\/em> <br \/><strong>Common names<\/strong>: Polygala, Myrtle-leaf milkwort, Butterfly bush<br \/><strong>Origin:<\/strong> South Africa<br \/><strong>Family<\/strong>: <em>Polygalaceae <\/em> <br \/><strong>Category<\/strong>: Outdoor plant<br \/><strong>Approx. height<\/strong>: 40\u201350 cm<br \/><strong>Pot diameter<\/strong>: 17 cm<\/p>\n<p><strong>CUIDADOS<\/strong><br \/><strong>Light<\/strong>: Grow in full sun. If planted in partial shade (direct sun for only part of the day), growth tends to be slower and it will produce fewer flowers.<br \/><strong>Watering<\/strong>: Once established, it requires little watering, only during the hottest months. (Avoid saucers with standing water and be careful with decorative pots without drainage holes where water can collect)<br \/><strong>Temperature<\/strong>: Can withstand temperatures as low as -10 \u00b0C but needs some protection during frosts; it adapts very well to the temperate climate of mainland Portugal. <br \/><strong>Fertilization<\/strong>: As hardy, low-maintenance plants, simply use organic matter in winter and a suitable outdoor plant fertilizer in spring\/summer to promote blooming.<br \/><strong>Soil<\/strong>: Tolerates poorer soils, windy locations, and hard water, but only reaches its full potential in fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter.<br \/><strong>Pruning<\/strong>: Light but regular pruning to keep the plant compact and healthy, mainly in spring after flowering.<br \/><strong>Pet-friendly<\/strong>: Considered safe for pets and does not appear on the ASPCA&#8217;s main lists of toxic plants.
