These are extraordinary shrub plants—always elegant and highly versatile. They suit many styles, adapt well to different soil types, and, aside from a few hours of direct sun a day, need little else to beautify gardens, beds, and planters. Rose bushes are part of the essence of the typical Portuguese garden. Meilland roses constitute the largest collection of hybrid rose varieties created by Meilland – in France – which has been producing and selling them for over 100 years. They grow relatively quickly, offer abundant and colorful flowering, generally from early spring until late autumn. Check specific information about this variety below.

Scientific name: Rosa spp.
Variety/cultivar name: Climbing rose ‘Cyclamen Pierre de Ronsard – Margaret Mae’
Family: Rosaceae
Category: Outdoor plant
Approximate height: 40cm
Pot diameter: 14cm

The Cyclamen Pierre de Ronsard – Margaret Mae rose is an exceptional, enchanting creation from the Pierre de Ronsard family, a member of the Meilland Richardier House. This climbing rose is sure to win you over with its impressive habit, generous flowering, soft fragrance, and lush foliage. This variety belongs to the “Romantica” series, with blooms whose shape perfectly blends the grace and delicate beauty of old roses with the high resistance of modern roses. Along with double blooms, it features warm pink petals with silvery highlights, continuous flowering throughout the season, and the ability to produce 3 flowers per stem. It’s so much more than charm! Other special features include high disease resistance and long-lasting cut flowers (around 5–7 days, well above the usual average).

Features of the ‘Cyclamen Pierre de Ronsard – Margaret Mae’ Rose:
Flower colour: Deep pink, combined with a warm greyish pink/silvery highlights (pink tone gradient).
Fragrance: Light scent.
Flowering type: Repeat-flowering, from spring to autumn (can produce up to 3 flowers per stem).
Flower size: Large, double blooms in a romantic/old-style form, around 11–13cm, with about 70 petals.
Height: A climber that can reach 2.75m—an excellent choice for walls, fences, pergolas, arches, or for use as a cut flower (for indoor vases or other cut-flower arrangements).

CUIDADOS
Light: Full sun (without about 6 hours of direct sun/day, it won’t flower or develop well).
Temperature: Rose bushes are well adapted to our temperate climate. They prefer temperatures between 15°C and 28°C but tolerate lower temperatures well (down to -20°C).
Watering: Moderate—after planting, in the first summer, and during flowering periods. Reduce watering in winter—if it’s outdoors, let the rain do the job (water only if there’s a prolonged dry spell).
Fertilising: Use a rose fertiliser in spring–summer, following the instructions on the product label.
Pruning: Like most rose bushes, this variety also tolerates pruning well. Remove dry/damaged branches and spent blooms to encourage flowering and keep the desired shape. Prune in late winter or early spring.
Soil: They adapt well to different soil/substrate types, as long as they’re light and rich in organic matter (they really like humus). The soil should be well-drained, as they don’t tolerate waterlogging.
Pet Friendly: Most rose bushes themselves aren’t considered toxic to pets. However, if ingested, the thorns can cause serious injuries.

Tip: Rose bushes don’t like excessive wind exposure, but the chosen spot should be airy to prevent fungal issues on leaves and flowers.

WARNING!
