Its large, rounded, voluminous flowers, in white, made of dozens of delicate small petals, create a highly decorative visual effect. It usually blooms from spring to late summer, providing a long-lasting display of color and freshness. Besides its beauty, it’s relatively easy to care for. It tolerates lower light, but if placed in a spot that’s too shady, it may not bloom. Do not place the pot or planter/do not plant in spots exposed to direct sun, especially during the hottest hours of the day.
Temperature: Ideal between 15°C and 25°C (avoid temperatures below 5°C or above 30°C)
Watering: Water when the substrate is completely dry. Don’t leave standing water in saucers or decorative pots without drainage holes.
Humidity: Native to humid forests and mountain slopes, it thrives best in cool, damp environments—in southern Portugal, it’s a good idea to plant it in a north-facing spot or next to a wall that provides shade during the hottest months.
Fertilisation: Apply an acid-loving plant fertiliser in spring-summer, as directed on the label, to promote abundant flowering.
Pruning: Deadhead wilted flowers to stimulate new blooms.
Soil: Well-drained substrate/soil rich in organic matter, with a slightly acidic pH – a substrate for acid-loving plants is suitable. Just like with Camellias, Azaleas, Blueberries, etc., it’s essential to grow Hydrangeas in acidic substrate to ensure healthy development.
Not Pet Friendly: Toxic to pets.

Fun Fact: Soil pH influences flower color—more acidic soil favors blue/purple tones. In Portugal, hydrangeas tend to grow very well in cooler, more humid areas where the soil also has a naturally more acidic pH, such as Northern Portugal and the Azores, where they are particularly abundant.

WARNING!
