Hydrangea macrophylla<\/em>, known as hydrangea, is an elegant ornamental plant highly prized for its lush blooms which\u2014just like the Geranium\u2014is a must-have for any Portuguese balcony, terrace, or garden! Its large, rounded, voluminous flowers, in white<\/strong>, made of dozens of delicate small petals, create a highly decorative visual effect. It usually blooms from spring to late summer, providing a long-lasting display of color and freshness. Besides its beauty, it’s relatively easy to care for. It’s essential to place it in spots with plenty of indirect light (it can’t handle direct sun) and ensure regular watering during hot months without waterlogging\u2014watch out for saucers or decorative pots without drainage holes where water can collect! It’s perfect as a gift or for creating garden borders and colorful corners on balconies or terraces. It’s a plant that adds a natural, elegant, and cozy touch to any environment.<\/p>\n

CUIDADOS<\/strong>
Light<\/strong>: Prefers bright indirect light or partial shade. It tolerates lower light, but if placed in a spot that’s too shady, it may not bloom. Do not place the pot or planter\/do not plant in spots exposed to direct sun, especially during the hottest hours of the day.
Temperature<\/strong>: Ideal between 15\u00b0C and 25\u00b0C (avoid temperatures below 5\u00b0C or above 30\u00b0C)
Watering<\/strong>: Water when the substrate is completely dry. Don’t leave standing water in saucers or decorative pots without drainage holes.
Humidity<\/strong>: Native to humid forests and mountain slopes, it thrives best in cool, damp environments\u2014in southern Portugal, it’s a good idea to plant it in a north-facing spot or next to a wall that provides shade during the hottest months.
Fertilisation<\/strong>: Apply an acid-loving plant fertiliser in spring-summer, as directed on the label, to promote abundant flowering.
Pruning<\/strong>: Deadhead wilted flowers to stimulate new blooms.
Soil<\/strong>: Well-drained substrate\/soil rich in organic matter, with a slightly acidic pH – a substrate for acid-loving plants is suitable. Just like with Camellias, Azaleas, Blueberries, etc., it’s essential to grow Hydrangeas in acidic substrate to ensure healthy development.
