It’s considered one of the most luxurious and exotic indoor plants in the world—ideal if you want a statement piece that steals the show in any room. Interestingly, it’s an epiphyte in nature (it grows supported on tree trunks), and its stunning pink “petals” are actually bracts (i.e., modified leaves).

Scientific name: Medinilla magnifica
Common names: Medinila, Chandelier plant, Magnifica
Family: Melastomataceae
Origin: Philippines
Climate: Humid tropical
Category: Indoor plant
Approx. height: 45 cm
Pot diameter: 17 cm

CUIDADOS
Light: Prefers abundant indirect light. It needs lots of bright light to bloom, but it can’t handle direct sun, as it may scorch its sensitive leaves.
Watering: Moderate. Let the substrate dry out (top 3 cm) before watering again. It’s very sensitive to excess water and waterlogging, so watch out for saucers with standing water or decorative pots without drainage holes, where water can stagnate and encourage root rot. Cut back watering drastically in winter.
Humidity: Given its origin, it likes environments with high relative humidity (ideally above 60–70%). We recommend wiping the leaves with a damp cloth (avoiding the flowers) and/or using a humidifier in drier rooms and/or seasons.
Temperature: Ideally between 18°C and 25°C. It needs a cooler period in winter (between 15°C and 17°C) to encourage next year’s flowering. It doesn’t tolerate cold draughts or being near heating/cooling systems.
Fertilising: Apply a fertiliser for flowering plants during the growth and flowering period (spring–summer), following the label instructions.
Pruning: Cut off the faded flower clusters as soon as flowering ends so the plant can focus its energy on leaves and new buds.
Life cycle: Perennial
Soil: Very light, porous substrate with excellent drainage (an organic-rich mix with perlite or pine bark, similar to orchid soil).
Pet Friendly: It’s not considered a toxic plant, but due to saponins in its leaves, ingestion may cause mild gastrointestinal discomfort in dogs and cats. Keep it out of reach of pets.

WARNING! Representative photo – the image shown is of a stock item at the time of cataloging and serves as a reference.
