It’s lightly scented, and its silver-green leaves are rounder than those of Eucalyptus gunnii, resembling the shape of a coin. Hence its common name “Silver Dollar”/”Silver Dollar”. It’s also used in floral arrangements (once dried, it keeps its shape and colour), and it’s often hard to tell these varieties apart. In both varieties, flowering usually happens from May–June, and the flowers are rich in nectar, attracting bees and birds. The main difference between these two more ornamental eucalyptus varieties is that this Eucalyptus cinerea is smaller and more compact (Eucalyptus gunnii grows larger, and is a better option if you want to grow it in the garden as a shade tree). Even when planted in garden soil, this variety is unlikely to exceed 4 m in height, making it a great choice if you want a small shrub or want to keep a small tree in a pot or planter. Another difference is the bark: this Eucalyptus cinerea has reddish-brown bark that peels on smaller branches, while gunnii has smooth, white or mottled grey bark.

Scientific name: Eucalyptus cinerea ‘Silver Dollar’
Common names: Eucalyptus, Silver Eucalyptus, Silver Dollar Eucalyptus, Blue Eucalyptus
Family: Myrtaceae
Origin: Australia
Climate: Temperate
Category: Outdoor plant
Approximate height: 40cm
Diâmetro vaso: 19cm

CUIDADOS
Light: Prefers bright spots with good sun exposure; adapts to full sun or partial shade.
Temperature: Very cold-hardy (tolerates temperatures below 0°C).
Watering: Doesn’t tolerate waterlogging; on the contrary, it’s very drought-tolerant, so water moderately, especially when kept in a pot.
Pruning: Benefits from regular pruning to keep a compact shape and encourage dense growth.
Soil: Will appreciate slightly acidic, moderately fertilised soil, but above all with good drainage, so the repotting mix should be rich in peat and/or sand
Not Pet Friendly: Considered toxic to pets.

WARNING!
