During spring and summer, they display white\/cream flowers with an irresistible fragrance, which is why they are so widely used in cosmetics and perfumery. These slow-growing evergreen shrubs should be kept in spots with good sun exposure (otherwise flowering will be compromised), but sheltered from the sun during the hottest hours. Gardenias don&#8217;t like hard water and don&#8217;t tolerate wind or frost well, especially in small pots or planters\u2014in these cases, they are less likely to withstand extreme conditions.
