Its flowers, usually in shades of violet, blue-lilac or white, form elegant hanging clusters that can reach 15 to 30 cm in length and release a sweet, very pleasant fragrance. The flowers usually appear before or at the same time as the leaves, creating one of the garden’s most impressive floral displays.
The leaves are made up of 9 to 13 bright green leaflets, forming dense, ornamental foliage during the warmer months of the year. After flowering, the plant produces decorative pods that can remain on the branches for part of the winter.
It’s an excellent choice for pergolas, arches, walls, trellises and other support structures, where it can grow luxuriantly. In favourable conditions, it can exceed 8 to 10 m in length, forming true cascades of flowers and creating pleasant shaded areas during summer. As a deciduous plant, it goes dormant in winter, regaining all its exuberance with the arrival of spring.
Long-lived and timelessly beautiful, Wisteria is one of the most popular ornamental climbers in romantic, classic or Mediterranean-style gardens.

Scientific name: Wisteria sinensis
Common names: Wisteria, Chinese Wisteria
Family: Fabaceae
Origin: China
Climate: Temperate
Category: Outdoor plant
Approximate height: 90cm
Pot diameter/volume: 18 cm (2.5 L)

CUIDADOS
Light: Prefers locations with good sun exposure, although it tolerates partial shade. Flowering is more abundant when grown in full sun.
Temperature: Cold resistant, tolerating temperatures down to -15°C.
Watering: Needs regular watering during the active growth period (spring and summer), keeping the soil moist but not waterlogged. In winter, watering frequency can be reduced.
Humidity: Appreciates soil with moderate moisture, avoiding waterlogging.
Fertilisation: Apply phosphorus-rich fertiliser in early spring to stimulate flowering. Avoid fertilisers that are too rich in nitrogen, as they encourage leafy growth at the expense of flowering.
Pruning: Usually done twice a year: in summer, shortening the year’s vigorous shoots, and in winter, cutting back side branches to encourage more abundant flowering the following spring.
Soil: Substrate rich in organic matter, well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral.
Not Pet-Friendly: All parts of the plant are toxic if ingested by pets or humans, and may cause gastrointestinal symptoms.

Fun fact: Some wisterias can live for over 100 years and, once well established, become more floriferous with age, producing thousands of flower clusters every spring.

WARNING!
