It forms a dense, elegant plant, covered in small, very glossy dark-green leaves and flower spikes in shades of white, lilac, pink or violet—depending on the variety.
Thanks to its moderate growth and low maintenance needs, it easily adapts to gardens, flower beds, borders, window boxes and pots, making it an excellent option for coastal gardens due to its good tolerance to wind and sea spray.
Flowering usually occurs from late spring to early autumn, attracting bees and other pollinating insects and contributing to garden biodiversity.

Scientific name: Hebe × hebedonna
Common names: Hebe, Hebe-donna
Family: Plantaginaceae
Origin: Horticultural hybrid (descended from species native to New Zealand)
Climate: Temperate and Mediterranean
Category: Outdoor plant
Approx. height: 35–40 cm
Pot diameter: 21 cm

CUIDADOS
Light: Prefers spots with direct sun or bright partial shade. It flowers more abundantly when it gets several hours of sun a day.
Temperature: Grows best in mild climates. Tolerates moderate cold and occasional light frosts (down to around -5 °C), as long as it’s well established and in well-drained soil.
Watering: Moderate. Water regularly during the first few months after planting and during periods of intense heat. Once established, it’s quite resistant to short dry spells.
Humidity: Doesn’t like waterlogging. It should be grown in well-drained soils.
Soil: Fertile, light and well-drained. Adapts to most garden soils.
Fertilising: Apply fertiliser for outdoor flowering plants at the start of spring and repeat during the growing season, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Pruning: Regularly remove spent flowers to encourage new blooms. It can be lightly pruned after flowering to keep a compact shape and encourage branching.
Pet Friendly: Considered a low-toxicity plant and not usually listed as toxic to dogs and cats. Even so, it’s best to avoid ingestion of any part of the plant.

Fun fact: The genus Hebe was named in honour of the Greek goddess of youth. It’s currently part of the Plantaginaceae family, although for many years it was included in the Scrophulariaceae family. Its long flowering period and excellent hardiness make this plant one of the most popular choices for low-maintenance gardens.

WARNING!
