Plumbago auriculata<\/em>, commonly known as Blue Jasmine, is a climbing shrub with relatively fast growth, much loved for its abundant flowering in delicate sky-blue tones from spring through autumn. Light and elegant in habit, it develops long, flexible stems that can be trained on trellises, railings, walls or other support structures, creating a highly striking ornamental effect.
Native to South Africa, it adapts exceptionally well to the Portuguese climate and is especially valued for its resistance to heat, drought and coastal conditions. Its long flowering period attracts bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects, supporting garden biodiversity and making it even more lively and colourful.
An excellent choice for Mediterranean gardens, patios, terraces, pergolas, fences and sunny balconies. When grown in a pot, it benefits from a stake or support to guide and showcase the growth of its stems. With minimal care, it rewards you with lush presence and one of the most beautiful blue blooms available for the garden. Its sky-blue flowers are especially prized in Mediterranean gardens and are one of the most used species to create contrast with silver-leaved plants such as lavender, santolina or dusty miller.<\/p>\n

CUIDADOS<\/strong>
Light<\/strong>: Prefers full sun, where it flowers more abundantly. Tolerates partial shade, although flowering may be reduced.
Watering<\/strong>: Moderate. Once established, it tolerates dry spells, but benefits from regular watering during the hottest months, especially when grown in a pot. Watch out for saucers or decorative pots without drainage holes where irrigation\/rainwater can stagnate, leading to root rot.
Temperature<\/strong>: Grows best in mild to warm climates. Tolerates heat and coastal conditions well. May be damaged by severe or prolonged frost.
Fertilising<\/strong>: Apply fertiliser for outdoor flowering plants in spring and summer to encourage growth and prolong flowering.
Pruning<\/strong>: Can be pruned in late winter or after peak flowering to control size, encourage new branching and keep a more compact shape.
Soil<\/strong>: Prefers fertile, well-drained soils, though it adapts to different substrates as long as they don\u2019t stay waterlogged.
