Its branched stems are covered in numerous trumpet-shaped flowers, available in a wide variety of colours and patterns, creating a particularly exuberant splash of colour on balconies, terraces, and in gardens.
It is a perfect choice for pots, window boxes, and hanging baskets, where its trailing habit can be fully appreciated. It can also be used in flowerbeds, borders, or as ground cover. The Royal Horticultural Society characterises Surfinias precisely by their trailing/prostrate habit and recommends growing them in full sun, in fertile and well-drained soil.
With plenty of light, regular watering, and proper fertilisation during the growing season, it provides a very generous bloom from late spring through summer, potentially lasting into autumn as long as temperatures remain favourable.

Flower colour: variable, depending on the specimen available.

Scientific name: Petunia × atkinsiana (syn. Petunia × hybrida)
Common names: Surfinia Petunia, Surfinia, Trailing Petunia
Family: Solanaceae
Origin: Ornamental hybrid; the Petunia genus is native to South America
Climate: Temperate, Mediterranean, Subtropical
Category: Outdoor plant
Approximate height: 25cm

CUIDADOS
Light: Full sun. For vigorous growth and abundant flowering, it should be grown in a well-lit and sunny spot. The RHS recommends full sun and, preferably, some protection from drying winds.
Watering: Regular, especially during the hottest months and when grown in a pot or window box. Keep the substrate slightly moist, but never waterlogged. During periods of intense heat, containers can dry out quickly, so you should regularly check the moisture of the substrate.
Temperature: Prefers mild to warm temperatures. It must be protected from frost and placed outdoors only after the risk of frost has passed. Although petunias can be annuals or perennials depending on the species and conditions, Surfinias are generally grown as seasonal plants where winters are cold.
Humidity: Prefers airy environments. Avoid keeping flowers and foliage permanently wet and provide good air circulation, particularly in humid conditions, as Surfinias can be susceptible to fungal diseases, including rot and grey mould.
Soil: Light, fertile, well-draining substrate. Drainage is particularly important when grown in pots, window boxes, or hanging baskets.
Fertilising: During the growing and flowering season, apply a suitable fertiliser for flowering plants regularly, always following the frequency and dosage indicated by the manufacturer. As it is a vigorously growing plant with very abundant flowering, it benefits from regular nutrition when grown in a container.
Pruning/Maintenance: Regularly remove faded flowers and dry parts. The RHS recommends deadheading (removing spent flowers) for the maintenance of Surfinia petunias. Excessively long or less vigorous branches can be trimmed to encourage a more compact and branched plant.
Pet Friendly: Yes. Petunias are classified by the ASPCA as non-toxic to dogs and cats. Even so, as with any plant material, encouraging ingestion is not recommended.

Fun Fact: Surfinia is not a different botanical species from the petunia, but rather a well-known commercial series of petunias selected for their particularly vigorous and trailing growth. It is precisely this growth habit that allows for the characteristic cascading effect, making Surfinias especially popular in window boxes and hanging baskets.

WARNING!
– Representative photograph – the image shown is of specimens in stock at the time the product was added to the online catalogue, and is therefore a reference.
