Sansevierias belong to the Asparagaceae family and are well known for their long, flat, and fleshy leaves. With different shades of green, and some with yellow accents, they are widely used in interior decoration. They fit into both classic and modern environments, are hardy, easy to care for, and therefore ideal for those starting out or who can’t spare much time for plant care. Their purifying abilities make them a great option for use in the bedroom or in spaces with little ventilation.

For this type of plant, it’s advisable to water moderately. The best way to check if the plant needs water is to do the “finger test,” inserting it about 3 cm into the soil and only watering if you find it dry. It’s important to keep in mind that, although Sansevieria is a hardy plant, it’s advisable to use a substrate with good drainage and rich in nutrients so that the plant remains healthy. Sansevieria grows best in temperatures between 15-25°C, but it tolerates both low temperatures, down to 10°C, and higher ones, up to 30°C.

To ensure that the plants grow healthy, it’s important to gently and regularly clean the dust off the leaves with a damp cloth. This task will allow them to absorb more light, which will favor their ability to feed and nourish themselves through photosynthesis.

Like Sansevieria, there are other easy-to-maintain plants such as Zamioculcas, Scindapsus, or Spathiphyllum (Peace Lily).
