Last September, Patrícia Catalão, architect and interior designer, took on the curation of the Homeing – Interior, Design, Hotel and Home Living event, which took place at Pavilhão Carlos Lopes under the theme Slow Living. At her invitation, Horto do Campo Grande executed the project for the green zones in the reception and lounge areas—spaces with simple, functional layouts where the focus on capturing natural light and outdoor views was clearly present.

A decor where pieces made of natural materials prevailed, such as wood, stone, linen, and cotton, in neutral and earthy tones that are timeless and convey a sense of calm and tranquility to the environments where they are integrated. These choices reflect Patrícia Catalão’s ongoing concern for sustainability. The integration of plants in her projects is another constant, as they “manage to promote an active connection with nature and can be the starting point for defining an environment or function as an important complement for aesthetic and sensory harmony.” Patrícia Catalão shared her preferences for plant selection with us—for outdoor areas like terraces, balconies, and patios, she leans towards Mediterranean plants (olive, fig, and pine trees); for indoor areas, she likes to combine plants such as cacti and imposing Strelitzia nicolai, which she places in ceramic pots with matte finishes and shades suited to the space, ranging from terracotta, white, and beige to grey or black.

During our conversation, we also had the opportunity to exchange ideas about the benefits of hiring a professional for an architecture and interior design project as a way to add value to the proposed spaces. The architect reveals that an architecture and interior design project executed by a professional results in work that is thought out individually, fully customized, adapted to the client and their lifestyle, and suited to the existing building’s structure.
The follow-up process that happens in all her projects begins when the client expresses their wishes and dreams; at this initial stage, it’s essential to know the site to combine the client’s goals and adapt them to the space. This professional support extends to the construction phase, which is essential to ensure the proposed objectives are met and to resolve any issues that may arise during the work. The creative process behind each of her projects is mapped out through the aspirations of those who will inhabit the space, and only in a second phase do other details emerge, such as materials, colors, and decorative pieces.

Patrícia Catalão holds a degree in architecture from the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Lisbon. Throughout her professional career, she has collaborated on various urban planning projects, as well as architecture for residential, commercial, hospitality, and service buildings. She specialized in architecture and interior design projects for private clients and investors, winning the SIL Real Estate award for excellence in the “Environments and Trends” category in 2019. It was during her professional activity that her path crossed with Horto do Campo Grande, a company she turns to for the execution of green spaces in her projects, as was the case with The Lake Lodge project, which was part of the reception and lounge area at Homeing 2023 under the Slow Living theme.
