The solution came to him during a boat trip when he saw a metal buoy. Stephen’s idea was to turn it into a “grill ball”: he cut it into two halves, used the lower part as a bowl, added three feet to keep it stable and used the upper part as a lid. By adding a handle to this lid, he revolutionised the gestures associated with barbecuing: it became possible to control the cooking of food with the elegance of a chef when he lifts the hood… And so the Original Kettle was born, the first Weber grill, by the hands of an ingenious father of 12.
