The choice of indoor plants must take into account the characteristics of the region and the place where they will be placed (places with more or less sun exposure). In Portugal’s case, we have a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, humid winters!
WHAT ARE THE MOST SUITABLE INDOOR PLANTS FOR THE PORTUGUESE CLIMATE?
1. Indoor plants – with foliage and ornamentals

3. Indoor plants – with flowers
- Anthuriums: Very hardy and very attractive. Its bright flowers add colour and charm to any decor. Prefers bright environments, but without direct sunlight.
- Peace Lily: Hardy and easy to maintain, this is one of the most popular indoor plants in the world! It adapts well to indoor environments and prefers moderate to bright indirect light. It purifies the air.
- Orchids: Elegant and versatile flowers, one of the most heat-tolerant species. They thrive in moderate indoor climates with good indirect light and controlled irrigation.
4. Indoor plants – aromatic
- Mint: It has a sweet, fresh scent! It prefers environments with plenty of light but no direct sunlight and moderate watering.
- Lavandula (Lavender): Place in small pots near well-lit windows. Ideal for placing in the bedroom, its unmistakable scent has properties that help reduce stress and anxiety, slowing down the heart rate and improving sleep quality!
- Basil: A delicious, strong flavour, it is often used in recipes. Also decorative, it’s ideal in well-lit kitchens.
