The iconic Olissippo Lapa Palace Hotel, located in the prestigious Lapa neighborhood, is Horto do Campo Grande’s latest client for exterior maintenance.
Built in the 19th century and acquired in 1877 by the Count of Valenças, who transformed it into a magnificent palace of the era, considered a landmark for the social events that brought together Lisbon’s high society.
In 1988, the Count’s heirs sold the Palace to the Simões de Almeida family, who transformed it into a hotel, then named Hotel da Lapa. The hotel underwent a major renovation by architect Alberto Cruz and his son Manuel Cruz, with the main objective of preserving the palace’s style as much as possible. The stained glass windows in the Columbano and Eça de Queirós Rooms are original pieces from the Palace, as is the furniture in the Eça de Queirós room.

In every corner of the hotel, you can feel the influences of the 19th century, due to the preservation of the original style of the imposing mansion, through figures of aristocrats from the era painted on the walls and decorative elements created by Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro and his brother Columbano. Situated at the top of a hill, overlooking the Tagus River, the hotel has three distinct wings – the Palace wing, with individually decorated rooms located in the former Palace; the Garden wing, whose rooms enjoy magnificent views of the city, the Tagus River, and the garden; and Villa Lapa, with rooms featuring a balcony and private garden – and is set within a majestic, century-old subtropical garden.
“Meeting the client’s expectations regarding our work, consistently maintaining the quality of our service over time, and providing hotel guests with pleasant walks where they can fully enjoy the garden of this magnificent hotel; Promoting the well-being of hotel guests by using, for example, battery-powered machines to ensure minimal noise, while also being the best option environmentally.” These are the main objectives and challenges highlighted by the coordinator and head of HCG’s exterior maintenance department, Patrícia Brízida.
