Plants make spaces feel cosier and bring a sense of calm and happiness. But if you’re just getting started with gardening, or don’t have much time to devote to plants but still want to keep them looking great, it’s best to choose species that don’t require much maintenance.
Here are 5 options that don’t require much care:
Sansevieria
Also known as the snake plant, Sansevieria is an air-purifying plant, very resistant to negative energy and very hard to kill—even for the most forgetful.

Affectionately known as the ponytail palm, Beaucarnea is a shrub with a semi-woody texture and a sculptural look that adapts very well to indoor spaces. Its thick trunk stores a lot of water, so it doesn’t require much maintenance.
Zamioculca, or Zami to friends, is a hardy plant that needs little water and doesn’t require much light. Resistant to a lack of water (but not to too much of it), Zamioculcas do well in shade and don’t need pruning. To keep them looking beautiful and healthy, just water once—or at most twice—a week.
Succulents are famous for being easy to care for. They only need a spot with some natural light, little water, and they even tolerate the occasional lapse in care. Once adapted to the environment, the plant reproduces, flowers, changes shape, and even colour.
Scindapsus, also known as “pothos”, has heart-shaped leaves with an attractive pattern. It’s a hardy climber and very easy to care for—just water twice a week and make sure it gets a bit of light.
