Native to Southwest China, it belongs to the Boraginaceae family. A small, slow-growing tree with evergreen leaves that are much appreciated for their lush green colour. It bears a white flower that can be followed by a fruit. There are 2 varieties: the large-leaf (Macrophyla) and the small-leaf (Microphyla), the latter fruits more easily.
Scientific name: Ehretia buxifolia
Common name: Carmona
Location: Indoor bonsai
Altura aproximada: 30cm
CUIDADOS
Light: Keep indoors, by a window (max. 50 cm away), with no curtains or blinds, where it gets 2 to 3 hours of direct sun per day, rotating it 180° weekly. Keep away from heating/cooling systems. It can spend the warm months outdoors, but it can’t handle temperatures below 12°C.
Watering: Water the soil thoroughly until plenty of water runs out of the drainage holes, moistening the soil evenly—always from above, never by immersion—using a fine-rose watering can (specific for bonsai). Let the top layer of soil dry well between waterings. To check if it needs water, touch the soil with your fingers. This bonsai doesn’t need much water and is sensitive to root fungi if exposed to excess water and/or lack of light. If you use a saucer under the bonsai, never leave standing water (to prevent root rot).
Nutrition: From Feb to Nov, fertilise with a basic plan made up of a complete fertiliser and a biostimulant, and you can also combine it with other products.
Pruning: This bonsai has slow growth and its leaves stay attractive for a long time, so you should trim new shoots as soon as they reach the desired size to keep a compact look.
Repotting: With Bonsai Soil for Deciduous Trees in Apr to May, with pruning and/or partial defoliation.
Wiring: Uncommon; it can be done year-round, but be careful as it’s very brittle.
WARNING! Representative photo—the image shown is of a specimen in stock at the time the product was added to the online catalogue, and is therefore a reference. The bonsai supplied will be similar to the photo but, depending on its stage in the growing cycle, it may vary in shape, appearance, or size (e.g. different leaf colour, more/less foliage, with or without flowers/fruit, etc.). The ceramic pot shown in the photo is included in the price and in the approximate height indicated.
*All bonsai are shipped in the box shown in the photo, which is closed (to protect the plant during transport), but the front opening is easy as there’s a perforation that lets you open the “window”, as shown in the image. The bow/card is only sent during festive seasons.
