Blue Star Fern - Phlebodium aureum 'Blue Star' (12cm pot)
Native to the tropical forests of Central and South America, this fern has personality and a very distinct hue. Sturdier than others in its family, it features long, hardy blue-grey fronds that grow in a wild yet dense fashion, making this fern incredibly decorative and elegant—ideal for hanging. It’s also very easy to care for and, besides being pet-friendly, it’s an air-purifying plant that helps remove toxins from the surrounding indoor space. Like all ferns, its only requirement is an environment with some humidity and more frequent watering during the warmer months (always ensuring good drainage to prevent root rot). Dry environments or proximity to heating/cooling systems will hinder its growth! Consider placing it in naturally more humid spots like bathrooms (with natural light) or kitchens.

Light: Indirect/filtered light, but also tolerates shadier spots. Does not tolerate direct sun (it will cause leaf burn and/or discoloration).
Temperature: Ideally between 16° and 24°C. Does not like temperatures below 10°C.
Humidity: As a tropical native, it enjoys high humidity levels. Does not tolerate overly dry environments or very high temperatures.
Watering: Try to keep the top of the soil moist—water lightly but frequently when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry to the touch. Avoid waterlogging: standing water in saucers or decorative pots without drainage holes will cause root rot. No standing water!
Soil: Fertile, well-drained substrate. An epiphytic plant mix also works well.
Fertilisation: Frequent fertilising isn’t necessary, but a spring application is recommended.
Pruning: Removing dry or damaged leaves boosts growth and keeps the plant healthy.
Pet Friendly: This plant is safe for pets.
