The Sansevieria cylindrica is a striking-looking plant, ideal for bedrooms, living rooms, or offices—not only because it suits spaces with lower light, but also because it’s an air-purifying plant: it cleans the air and releases oxygen at night. Like other Sansevierias (St. George’s Sword, St. Barbara’s), it’s a slow-growing perennial herbaceous plant that, in our climate, is mostly grown as an indoor plant. Because it’s so hardy, it’s ideal if you want plants at home but don’t have the time or experience.

Light: Adapts well to lower-light spots, and is ideal placed near a north-facing window. Although it survives with less natural light, in very dark spaces its growth will be slower.
Temperature: In summer, it tolerates temperatures up to 30 degrees, while in winter it handles down to 15 degrees. However, it can handle occasional drops to 10 degrees, as long as it’s kept in a dry spot.
Soil: Although St. George’s Spear is a tough plant, we recommend a well-draining, nutrient-rich potting mix to support healthy growth.
Fertilising: This plant doesn’t need constant fertilising. A slow-release fertiliser applied in spring and summer is enough to meet its nutritional needs.
Watering: Needs little water—occasional watering is enough. In the warmer months, water sparingly and only when the soil is completely dry or if the spears look “wrinkled” (a sign of lack of water, just like human skin). However, avoid overwatering and make sure there’s no standing water in the saucer or in a non-draining decorative pot, as it can cause root rot.
Not pet-friendly: Sansevieria cylindrica is considered toxic to pets if ingested, and may cause symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. It’s important to keep it out of reach of animals.
