Scientific Name: Ehretia buxifolia
Characterisation: Originally from south-west China, it belongs to the Boraginaceae family.
A small, slow-growing tree with evergreen leaves that are much appreciated for their lush green colour.
It bears a white flower that can be followed by a fruit. There are 2 varieties, the large-leaved (Macrophyla) and the small-leaved (microphyla), the latter of which bears fruit more easily. Location: Indoors near a window (maximum distance 50 cm), without curtains or blinds, where it gets 2-3 hours of direct sunlight a day, rotated 180º every week, away from heat sources or air conditioning. It can spend the hot months outside, but cannot withstand temperatures below 12ºC. Watering: Water the soil abundantly until enough water comes out of the drainage holes to evenly moisten the soil, always from above, never by immersion, using a fine-drained watering can (specifically for Bonsai). Allow the topsoil to dry out well between waterings (to check if the plant needs water, touch the soil with your fingers). They do not consume a lot of water. They are susceptible to root fungus if subjected to excess water and/or lack of light. If you have a dish under the Bonsai, never leave any water in it (to prevent the roots from rotting).
