Aromatic herbs are much more than simple culinary ingredients. Besides enhancing the flavor of dishes, they offer various health benefits due to their nutritional and therapeutic properties. They’re easy to grow outdoors, even in small spaces, and help add color and fragrance to gardens, patios, and balconies, provided they have good sun exposure – given their Mediterranean origin, most need at least 4 hours of direct sunlight per day. Ideally they prefer to be planted in the ground, but in small spaces it’s also possible to maintain a small herb garden by planting “companion” aromatics in pots or planters. However, plants like Rosemary, which become small shrubs, benefit from larger and deeper pots so their roots can develop properly.
Success in cultivation comes from choosing favorable combinations. “Companion” aromatics grow better together, without competition, and can even protect each other. They can also be combined with vegetables in urban gardens or allotments – CHECK OUT OUR READY-MADE “Companion Aromatics” KIT OFFERS!

CUIDADOS
Light: They need full sun, but some (e.g. Parsley and Coriander) should be sheltered from it during the hottest hours, especially in summer. A location with direct morning sun will be ideal.
Watering: During the hottest months of the year, make sure the soil stays slightly moist (in the case of Parsley, Chives, Coriander, for example) but watch out for waterlogging and saucers where water sits for several days. In the case of Thyme, Curry Plant, Oregano and Sage, for example, you should let the soil dry out between waterings. During winter, reduce watering or let the rain hydrate your plants (except during periods of moderate/severe drought).
Fertilization: We recommend applying organic fertilizer, such as worm castings, or another product suitable for aromatics, in spring-summer, following the dosage instructions on the label.
Harvesting: Daily harvesting of aromatics should be done from the outside in, to keep the planter full. Make “clean” diagonal cuts, encouraging growth.
Pruning: Perennial aromatics (Chives, Sage, Thyme, Savory, Marjoram, Lavender, Winter Savory, Lemon Balm, Lemon Verbena, Mints, Bay Laurel, Curry Plant, Oregano) should be pruned after flowering.
Soil: Choosing a substrate suitable for aromatics and vegetables is the ideal solution. You can also grow them using outdoor plant substrate.
Pet Friendly: Most aromatic herbs are safe for pets. However, supervision is recommended, as ingesting large quantities may cause gastrointestinal discomfort.
Tip: Basil Trick – cut off the flowers as soon as they appear so the plant continues to focus energy on producing leaves!
