Red currant is a deciduous shrub, usually reaching between 1 to 1.5m in height. The leaves are simple, with 3 to 5 serrated lobes and a spiral arrangement on the stems. In spring, hermaphrodite flowers appear in drooping clusters, followed by translucent bright red berries in clusters of about 3 to 10 fruits. An adult specimen can produce between 3 and 4 kg of fruit in summer.
