David Austin Rose 'The Lady Of The Lake' (22cm pot, climbing)

They are extraordinary shrub plants, always elegant and very versatile as they fit various styles, adapt well to different soil types and, apart from a few hours of direct sun per day, need little else to beautify gardens, beds and planters. The famous “David Austin” English roses – created by the man himself – combine the beauty and fragrance of old roses with the resilience and continuous flowering of modern roses, resulting in exuberant rosette-shaped flowers with many petals, varied colors and intense fragrances (such as myrrh, fruits, tea, among others). The Lady Of The Lake climbing rose produces flowers that enchant with their simple and delicate beauty. They are semi-double, about 5cm in diameter, appearing in clusters on long, thin and flexible stems. They display a pale pink color and an open form, each revealing a beautiful set of golden stamens and possess a fresh citrus fragrance. It was named after one of the most mystical characters in the Arthurian Legend “The Mists of Avalon” (by Marion Zimmer Bradley) – guardian of the sword Excalibur, magical guide to Arthur and the knights of Avalon, who also plays a central role in the famous poem by Sir Walter Scott.

Flower color: Pale pink.
Fragrance: Fruity aroma of medium intensity.
Flower size: Medium (5-8cm diameter).
Height: Can reach 3.75m, being ideal for supporting and decorating garden walls, as well as for growing along house facades and supporting on trellises or similar structures, or simply planting near pergolas, arches to embellish and create areas of color and shade in the warmer months of the year.

Light: Full sun (without about 4 hours of direct sun/day, it will not flower well).
Temperature: Roses are well adapted to our temperate climate. They enjoy temperatures between 15ºC to 28ºC but tolerate lower temperatures well (down to -20°C).
Watering: Moderate – after planting, in the first summer and during flowering periods. Reduce watering in winter – being outdoors, let the rain take care of watering (water only if a prolonged dry period occurs).
Fertilization: Use fertilizer suitable for roses, in spring-summer, following the instructions on the product label.
Pruning: Like most roses, this variety also tolerates pruning well. Remove dry/damaged branches and wilted flowers, promoting flowering and maintaining the desired shape. Pruning should be done in late winter or early spring.
Soil: They adapt well to various types of soils/substrates, as long as they are light and rich in organic matter (they love humus). The soil should be well-drained as they cannot tolerate waterlogging.
Pet Friendly: Most roses themselves are not considered toxic plants for pets. However, if ingested, the thorns can cause serious injuries.

Tip: Roses don’t like excessive wind exposure, but the chosen location should be airy, to prevent the appearance of fungi on leaves and flowers.
