Spanish Grass - Stipa tenuissima (12cm pot)
Stipa tenuissima is a highly ornamental and sustainable grass. It’s a small plant, quite hardy and well adapted to our climate, being native to arid and semi-arid regions of Mexico and the southwestern United States. It has a delicate and graceful appearance, formed by countless thin, flexible, light-green leaves that form clumps and sway in the wind, creating a light and elegant effect, making it highly appreciated in contemporary and minimalist gardens. It blooms in spring, with green spikes that turn golden in summer and develop abundant feathery panicles, slightly above the foliage, looking beautiful in beds, borders, pots/planters, masses and naturalized meadows. Additionally, it requires little maintenance, which is another point in its favor.

Light: Prefers full sun, with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily, however it can tolerate partial shade but its growth will be less vigorous.
Temperature: Adapts well to hot/dry climates and tolerates moderate cold, but may suffer in areas with intense frost.
Watering: Minimal as it tolerates drought well. Ensure the soil dries completely between waterings. Avoid waterlogging, as excess water promotes root rot.
Pruning: Remove dead leaves in early spring to encourage healthy growth.
Soil: Adapts to most soils, as long as they’re well-drained, even those poor in nutrients. It’s a truly versatile plant.
Pet Friendly: It’s a safe plant for pets (however, you should monitor animals that are very curious about the plant, especially during the flowering phase, as ingestion of the plumes is not recommended).
