The tomato plant is an annual herbaceous plant characterized by thin, flexible stems, often supported to prevent them from trailing on the ground and the fruit from rotting. It should be grown in full sun as it needs at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily to flower and then produce fruit. It appreciates soils rich in organic matter, light, well-drained and slightly moist (does not tolerate drought periods). It appreciates mild climates, so it does well in our country, although you must pay close attention after planting as it cannot go thirsty or be too exposed to the sun during the hottest hours while not yet well-rooted, or it may not survive. It is very demanding regarding fertilization during the growing and fruiting season. The leaves are dark green, and the small yellow flowers cluster in inflorescences. The fruits, known as tomatoes, come in various colors, shapes and sizes, depending on the variety grown.
Scientific name: Solanum lycopersicum
Common names: Tomato plant, Tomato, Common tomato

CUIDADOS
Light: Prefers direct sun exposure, requiring at least 6 hours of daily light to ensure good fruit production.
Temperature: Develops best between 20°C and 30°C. Temperatures below 12°C or above 35°C can negatively affect growth/fruiting.
Watering: Regular, but without waterlogging (ensure good drainage) keeping the soil slightly moist. Waterlogging/standing water in saucers or decorative pots without drainage holes can cause root rot.
Fertilization: Apply suitable fertilizer, rich in potassium, during the growing and fruiting period, to promote healthy plant development and fruit quality. Preferably organic, since the fruit will be consumed later.
Pruning: Perform regular pruning to remove side branches and dry leaves, encouraging vertical growth and improving air circulation.
Life cycle: Annual.
Soil: Fertile, well-drained substrate, with pH between 6.0 and 6.8. Enrich with organic matter to improve soil structure.
Not Pet Friendly: Green fruits and other parts of the plant contain toxic substances that can be harmful if ingested by pets.
Fun fact: The tomato is a fruit, and one of the most cultivated vegetable plants in the entire world. It belongs to the same family as potatoes, tobacco, peppers and aubergines!
