The Ficus benjamina is a timeless plant. A classic. It never goes out of style, is elegant, and highly ornamental. It’s perfect for filling an empty corner in any room, whatever your décor style— it fits minimalism, looks great in modern and sophisticated spaces, and works beautifully in more romantic or classic looks, as well as rustic décor. On top of that, it’s low-maintenance and belongs to the group of plants that help purify indoor air, making it an excellent choice for offices, shops, or clinics. The iconic leaves (elliptical, with slight ripples along the edges) of this Ficus benjamina variety show a range of green tones, from very light green to dark green, creating a variegation that gives it an exotic feel and makes it noticeably more ornamental. In our mild climate, Ficus can be planted (or kept in pots/planters) outdoors, as long as they’re in a spot sheltered from direct sun during the hottest hours. Also keep in mind that this plant, as it grows, becomes a tree with a considerable size (it can exceed 10 m), so—if planted in the ground—make sure it’s kept away from underground pipes to prevent the roots from damaging them. It can also be used as a shade tree, or kept in shrub form, and it’s an excellent option for hedges (if placed in spots sheltered from direct sun for long hours, especially in the afternoon).

Light: Prefers spots with plenty of bright, indirect light. Direct sun exposure can scorch the leaves.
Temperature: Ideally between 16°C and 24°C year-round. Avoid exposure to temperatures below 12°C and prolonged exposure to extreme heat.
Watering: Keep the soil slightly damp and water when the top layer is dry. Avoid waterlogging to prevent root rot (watch out for standing water in the saucer or in decorative pots without drainage holes).
Humidity: It likes environments with moderate humidity. Mist the leaves occasionally, especially in drier indoor environments.
Fertilising: During spring and summer, apply a liquid fertiliser suitable for green plants once a month to promote healthy growth.
Pruning: Only needed to shape the plant as desired or to encourage denser foliage growth.
Life cycle: Perennial
Soil: Well-draining substrate, rich in organic matter. A mixture of universal substrate with perlite or coarse sand is recommended to improve drainage.
Not Pet Friendly: The plant’s milky sap is toxic if ingested by pets and can cause skin irritation.
