The Phalaenopsis genus consists of about 60 species, all native to the Asian continent, from the Himalayas to Northern Australia. It’s one of the most popular and appreciated orchids for its elegant, long-lasting flowers. They grow epiphytically (attached to trees), which is why they’re potted in a substrate of pine bark, coconut fibers, and other organic mixes—essentially mimicking their natural habitat. Its flowers come in a variety of colors, such as white, pink, yellow, and purple, with a shape resembling a butterfly in flight. It has glossy green leaves, which should be cleaned frequently with a damp cloth to prevent pests and keep the plant looking beautiful and healthy.
