The Philodendron ‘Imperial Green’ is a timeless Philodendron, known for its large, oval, glossy leaves in green tones. It’s an elegant plant, ideal for creating Urban Jungle-inspired spaces, as its appearance evokes the plants found on tropical forest floors (where it’s native to). It’s also an excellent choice, as it requires almost no maintenance, belongs to the group of “air-purifying” plants (helping to eliminate toxins from the surrounding air) and tolerates shadier environments. CARE
Light: Indirect/filtered light but also tolerates shadier environments – note that the less light you give it, the less water it will need. Does not tolerate direct sun (may suffer burns).
Temperature: Ideally between 18° and 22°C. Mild and humid environments are ideal as they replicate the natural habitat.
Humidity: Being a plant native to tropical forests, it appreciates high humidity levels in the air. Does not tolerate overly dry environments or very high temperatures.
Watering: Let the soil dry out almost completely (not just at the surface) before watering again. Watch out for waterlogging: saucers with standing water or decorative pots without drainage holes promote root rot. No standing water!
Soil: Use a light substrate that promotes good drainage, slightly acidic (mixing perlite/sand into the substrate, and expanded clay at the bottom of the pot, helps improve drainage).
Fertilization: Fertilize monthly during spring with fertilizer suitable for green/indoor plants and following the instructions on the product label.
Pruning: Removing dry or damaged leaves promotes growth and keeps the plant healthy.
Not pet friendly: Can be toxic to pets if ingested, so it’s important to keep it out of reach of animals that are curious about plants.
Tips: Clean the leaves periodically with a clean, damp cloth or sponge. Yellowing edges may be a sign of overwatering. Dark spots may be fungi from excess water in the soil or on the leaves.
