In the heart of Lisbon, the EVOLUTION Valbom Hotel, part of the SANA Hotels group, presents itself as an urban, dynamic and multifunctional space where design, technology and nature come together. With a relaxed, contemporary atmosphere, this 4-star hotel was designed for those who live the city intensely, offering modern rooms, coworking areas, a 24-hour gym, bar, restaurant and a rooftop with panoramic views over the capital.
Horto do Campo Grande was responsible for the design, supply and maintenance of the landscaping project—an intervention that reflects EVOLUTION’s innovative and welcoming spirit, reinforcing the balance between sophistication, sustainability and well-being.
The landscaping project, developed by Landscape Architect Andreia Sousa from Horto do Campo Grande’s Design and Construction of Green Spaces Department, was born from the challenge of creating a green concept consistent with the building’s design. The intervention covered indoor and outdoor areas, respecting the architectural language and the hotel’s vibrant character.
At the entrance, linear beds and planters with Pittosporum tobira nana, Hedera helix and Buxus welcome guests, creating a natural transition between the city’s pace and the hotel’s relaxed atmosphere.
Indoors, contemporary design planters feature tropical, highly resilient species such as Strelitzia nicolai, Kentia forsteriana and Zamioculcas zamiifolia. The indoor garden combines Ficus benjamina, Monstera deliciosa and Philodendron xanadu, creating a bright green setting that invites you to pause.
On the ground floor and in the gym area, plants such as Bougainvillea, Strelitzia, Philodendron, Clusia and Agave add colour and movement to a space designed for multiple uses. A drip irrigation system ensures water efficiency and continuous care for the species.
At the top of the building, the rooftop is one of the highlights of the intervention. Here, the made-to-measure Horto Collection planters, produced in 1.5 mm zinc-coated sheet metal with a custom finish, are combined with terracotta pots, featuring Strelitzias, Dypsis, Yucca and Agaves. The result is an exotic, elegant setting that extends the EVOLUTION experience and turns the terrace into a green refuge above the city.
Maintenance of the spaces, carried out by the team from Horto do Campo Grande’s Interior Decoration and Maintenance Department, ensures the vitality and balance of the species over time. With regular pruning, cleaning, fertilisation and technical monitoring, the environments remain well cared for, fresh and visually consistent with the hotel’s aesthetic.
