Description:
The Padrón Pepper is a small pepper variety, measuring between
5 and 10 cm, usually olive green to yellowish green in colour. It has a
spindle shape with longitudinal grooves that give it a wrinkled appearance after
frying. Flowering is abundant and the fruits are harvested while still immature.
It has a predominantly sweet flavour, but about 10% of the fruits are
spicy, which gave rise to the popular Galician saying: “Pementos de Padrón, uns
pican e outros non”.
Care
Light: Requires full sun, ideally 6 to 8 hours of direct light per day.
In partial shade, flowering and development may be reduced.
Temperature: Needs moderate to high heat, between 20 °C and 30 °C.
Sensitive to intense cold or frost, which slows growth.
Watering: Moist but well-drained soil; avoid waterlogging.
Humidity: Adapts better in less dry environments. Excess moisture
in the soil or on the leaves can encourage fungal diseases.
Fertilisation: During the cycle, fertilise with compounds rich in phosphorus
and potassium to encourage fruiting.
Pruning: Generally doesn’t require pruning; remove damaged branches or leaves
to maintain ventilation. Life cycle: Normally grown as an
annual.

sandy loam texture, with pH between 6 and 7.
