This is an outdoor plant that has tended to be brought indoors. In its natural habitat this plant can reach a height of 10 metres, but in a pot it reaches a maximum of between 3 and 4 metres. As an indoor plant, its growth tends to be slower and its foliage more scattered, but very decorative. It is very hardy and adapts to less than perfect environments and conditions. As well as being very decorative, Ficus Lyrata is known for its ability to absorb and block noise pollution, purify the air and filter toxins.
Care: Ficus lyrata is a low-maintenance plant, ideal for those just starting out in the world of plants. Its indoor adaptability makes it an excellent choice for enclosed spaces, but it may need a tutor in the first few years of growth due to its size.
Light: This plant prefers plenty of indirect (or filtered) light. However, it can tolerate a few hours of direct sunlight, as long as it is always away from the window so as not to burn its leaves.
Watering: Used to a tropical climate, it’s important for Ficus Lyrata to keep the soil moist, but not too moist. The best way to tell if it’s time to water is to put your finger in the soil 2/3cm deep and see if the soil is damp. In the warmer months, this plant loves to have its leaves sprayed.
Temperature: It loves temperatures between 20-28ºC. But beware, high temperatures can cause the foliage to brown and/or even fall off.
Substrate: A universal substrate will provide the necessary nutrients for this plant.
Not Pet-Friendly: In case of ingestion, Ficus Lyrata is considered toxic to animals.
