Ficus lyrata “Copa” is a variety where the plant is grown with an exposed trunk, forming a canopy of leaves at the top. The leaves are large, 30 to 50 cm long, with wavy edges and prominent veins, giving them a striking ornamental appearance. The leaves are dark green and shiny, with a leathery texture. This plant can reach heights of up to 2-3 metres, but is usually controlled by pruning.
Care: Ficus lyrata appreciates vibrant indirect light, but avoid exposing it directly to intense sunlight. Keep the soil slightly moist by watering regularly, but avoid waterlogging the roots. It’s also important to clean the leaves regularly to keep the plant healthy and dust-free.
Fertilising: Every two months during spring and summer, using a liquid fertiliser. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure the right dosage and provide the nutrients needed for healthy growth.
Not pet friendly: It is important to note that Ficus lyrata can be toxic to pets, such as dogs and cats, if ingested. Therefore, it is recommended to keep the plant out of their reach and watch out for any signs of ingestion of the leaves.
Curiosities: In addition to its stunning beauty, it is known for its ability to purify the air, removing toxins and improving the quality of the indoor environment. Its violin-shaped leaves are a unique and fascinating feature that attracts plant admirers from all over the world.
