Residential Garden in Lisbon

When actress Madalena Brandão moved into her new home in Lisbon, she wanted to transform the outdoor space into a green refuge that would promote contact with nature and create a welcoming environment for the whole family. To bring this vision to life, she trusted Horto do Campo Grande to develop a landscaping project that combined functionality and aesthetics, enhancing every corner of her garden.

In the front area of the house, the intervention sought to combine beauty and utility, with the construction of a raised bed made from treated wood slats, weather-resistant, allowing the family to grow everything from aromatic herbs to vegetables in a practical and accessible way. The species chosen for the raised bed were Stevia, Ocimum basilicum (Basil), Allium schoenoprasum (Chives), Salvia officinalis, Strawberry (Fragaria), Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), among others. Alongside this, a fruit tree was planted, which not only contributes to a more natural and fresh environment, but also offers shade and seasonal harvests throughout the year. The choice of this element also had symbolic value, representing growth and connection with nature. This solution gives an organic character to the entrance of the property, allows the family to have access to fresh produce directly from the garden, and encourages maintenance practices, such as caring for the plants and encouraging the family’s children to do the same.

In the back of the residence, where the pool is located, a leisure and relaxation space was created, with the installation of highly resistant natural grass turf and the introduction of carefully selected new species. The lawn, in addition to providing a large area for children to play, contributes to a cooler and more comfortable environment on hot days, thanks to an automatic irrigation system adjusted to the specific needs of each area of the garden. This sustainable solution allows monitoring water consumption and ensuring that the plants develop in the best conditions.

To enhance the feeling of a lush and harmonious garden, the existing beds were enriched with flowering herbaceous plants and climbers, such as gardenias (Gardenia jasminoides) and lavenders (Lavandula augustifolia), selected not only for their decorative value, but also for the pleasant fragrance they release over time, making the space even more inviting. The combination of these elements resulted in a balanced environment, where nature integrates perfectly into the family’s daily life, promoting a sensory and relaxing atmosphere.

This garden was designed “to be a living and play area for the children, easy to maintain, but always beautiful and well-kept throughout the year, as it will be the main ‘picture’ of the living room, since its wall is entirely glass,” explains Vera Clara, Landscape Architect responsible for the Green Spaces Construction Department at Horto do Campo Grande, who designed this space.

The collaboration with Horto do Campo Grande made it possible to transform this outdoor space into a natural extension of the house, creating a living and dynamic space, designed to be enjoyed in all seasons of the year.
