Light: Bright indirect light or partial shade (it can’t handle direct sun, and in very low-light spaces it will grow less, although it’s one of the palms that best tolerates lower light—better than Areca, for example!)
Watering: Like most palms, it doesn’t need much water, but the substrate shouldn’t dry out completely. Ideally, keep it slightly moist on the surface (but avoid waterlogging or standing water in saucers or decorative pots without drainage holes). Yellow leaves can indicate overwatering, and crispy brown tips can mean it needs more water. Don’t forget that, just like people and animals, plants also need their hydration levels adjusted depending on the season. Even indoors, a plant needs less watering in winter than in summer.
Soil: use a suitable indoor plant substrate, rich in organic matter and with good drainage. If it’s slightly acidic, perfect. Add a layer of expanded clay at the bottom of the inner pot to help absorb excess water.
Fertilising: Fertilise once a month during the growing season with a liquid fertiliser.
Pet Friendly: Considered safe for pets such as dogs and cats.
